Ontario Immigration Nominee Program Eligibility
There are three primary immigration categories that you can apply in with the OINP. Here is a closer look at them to help you understand your eligibility.
Human Capital Category
According to the OINP, any person who is skilled and experienced in their trade and is able to speak French can apply for immigration to Canada via the OINP. Furthermore, if you are a graduate of a university within Ontario (Masters or Ph.D.), you can also apply for this immigration visa. However, it is important to note that this category requires a job offer or relevant experience as well.
For this program, you must:
- Be able to support yourself and your family in Canada with or without a job
- Must intend to settle and live in Ontario
- Must have a valid express entry profile
- Must have at least one year of full-time (paid) experience through the Express Entry program
- CB7 or higher language proficiency
Employer Job Offer Category
This category is another enhanced category suitable for foreign workers who have a job offer in hand and is known to be one of the quickest OINP immigration programs out there. There are three primary streams that you may fall in with this program; the Foreign Worker stream, International Student stream, and In-Demand Skills stream. For the last, Ontario regularly posts NOCs for agriculture, trucking, and more.
Eligibility requirements for this OINP stream include:
- You must have a full-time and permanent job offer in the province
- Must have the license(s) and certificate(s) needed for the job
- Must intend to settle and live in Ontario
Business Category
One of the most lenient and easy-to-apply streams in the OINP for immigration, citizenship, or permanent residence includes the business category. This is for people looking to set up a new business or buy a given number of shares in an existing business within Ontario. Furthermore, there are additional business requirements that you’ll have to meet with respect to your niche as well.
Basic eligibility requirements for business OINP include:
- Must have at least 2 years of business experience (within the last 5 years)
- The business must have a net worth of CAD 800,000
- Must invest at least CAD 600,000 in the business, which should amount to at least one-third of equity participation
How OINP Works
Based on your profile, you will be given a CRS score that will reflect your age, qualifications, experience, field, and other relevant details. The idea is to help you rank among the applicants based on your application stream. There is no minimum score requirement – instead, you simply need to rank higher in the pool.
