What is Provincial Nominee Visa for Canada?

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an immigration program dedicated to skilled workers who want to move to Canada. The program is designed to help provinces and territories fill labour shortages with people who have the skills and experience needed to contribute to the economy. Under the PNP, each province and territory has its own criteria for selecting nominees.

If you are nominated by a province or territory, you will need to meet the criteria of both the province or territory and the federal government to be eligible for permanent residence. This may seem a bit daunting, but the process is fairly straightforward and designed to help skilled people. It only requires you to have a proven record of performance over the years or a specialization that the province needs.

When applying for the PNP, you must first submit an expression of interest (EOI) to a particular province or territory. Your EOI will be entered into a pool of candidates. The province or territory will then invite you and other candidates from the pool to apply for nomination. Once nominated, you will then be able to apply for a permanent residence (PR) or citizenship. You can do that via the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

At Mayur Immigration Consultancy Ltd., we handle all these applications, processes, and other relevant requirements so that you can simply focus on your skills and your immigration to Canada. Our consultation experts help you understand the requirements and walk you through the entire process for application with the goal of improving your prospects as much as possible!

Provincial Nominee Visa Eligibility Requirements

The PNP is just one of many ways you can immigrate to Canada permanently. You may be eligible to apply for permanent residence through other immigration programs, such as the Express Entry program, since this program only gives you the right to move to the country. Mayur Immigration Consultancy can not only facilitate your move to the province but also help you get the permanent resident status you need.

To be eligible for the provincial nominee program, you must:

  • Have the skills, education, and work experience needed to contribute to the economy of the province or territory that has invited you;
  • Be employed in or have an offer letter (job offer) from an occupation that is in demand in the province or territory;
  • Have enough money to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada;
  • Have the required level of language proficiency
  • Have sufficient financial resources to settle in the province or territory if the employer is not bearing resettlement costs.
  • Be intending to live in the province or territory that has invited you; and
  • Meet the criteria of the province or territory that has invited you.

If you meet all of the above criteria, you may be eligible for a provincial nomination. While these requirements are specific to the provincial nominee visa, there are a few general requirements to keep in mind as well for any type of Canadian Immigration program. These mandates are set by the federal government to ensure that you are able to settle in the new area without any major complications.

These include:

  • Having a valid identity document, such as a passport, identity card, employment letter, and more;
  • Being in good health;
  • Passing a security clearance process conducted by the government of Canada; and
  • Not having a criminal record or a psychological disorder.

If you are invited to apply for the visa, you will need to provide proof that you meet the requirements of both the federal government and the province or territory. It is important to note that the PNP is just one of many ways you can immigrate to Canada permanently. You may be eligible to go for permanent residence (PR) status through other immigration programs, such as the Express Entry system.
