Canadian Temporary Visas – The Visitor Visa
The Canadian Visitor Visa is a short-term visa that allows people from certain countries to visit Canada for tourism or business purposes. This visa is also known as the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). The primary purpose of the Canadian Visitor Visa is to ensure that individuals entering the country are doing so for legitimate reasons and do not pose a threat to Canada’s security.
Visitor Visa for Canada has a maximum validity of 10 years or up to the expiry date of the passport whichever comes first, but can stay up to 6 months. Whether you are looking for a vacation, or visiting the country for a business meeting, you will need this temporary visa for entry. Usually, this is the visa that tourists apply for as well.
If you are planning to stay in Canada for longer than six months, you will need to apply for a different type of visa. For example, if you are coming to study or work, you will need to apply for a study or work permit. If you are a citizen of a country that does not require a visa to enter Canada, you can stay for up to 6 months without applying for a visa.
Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility requirements for a visitor visa vary depending on your country of citizenship.
If you are applying for a visitor visa, you will need to provide the following documents:
- A valid passport or travel document
- A letter of invitation from a friend or family member in Canada, if you have one
- Proof of financial support, such as bank statements or a letter from your sponsor
- A detailed travel itinerary
- Any other documents that may be required, such as proof of employment or studies
When Are You Not Eligible?
You will not be eligible for a visitor visa if you have been convicted of a serious crime, such as a violent crime or a crime involving drugs. You may also be ineligible if you have been refused entry to Canada in the past or if you have been ordered to leave Canada. An officer may also decline your application based on health or financial reasons.
The Application Process
You can submit your application online or by mail. If you are applying online, you will need to create an account on the IRCC website. Once you have created an account, you can fill out the application form and submit it electronically.
